Over 20 passengers burnt to death as two vehicles collide in Oyo

At Lanlate, Maya Junction in the Ibarapa East Local Government area of Oyo State, two vehicles collided, purportedly causing at least 20 passengers to be burned alive.

The incident reportedly took place on September 9, 2022, on a Friday afternoon.

The two cars were reportedly a commercial bus and a Sienna.

The two automobiles, which were allegedly moving in opposing directions, collided and immediately caught fire.

According to a source, just two passengers were able to escape the collision, and the other passengers and the cars were completely destroyed.

The incident was confirmed by Hon. Gbenga Obalowo, chairman of the Ibarapa East Local Government.

The event, according to Obalowo, who led a rescue squad to the scene, was pitiful and terrible.

He took the chance to express his sympathy to the families of those killed in the disaster.

The two survivors are currently receiving medical care at Awojobi Hospital in Eruwa, Obalowo continued while speaking.

He claimed that a morgue had received the bodies of individuals who had been burned.

He urged drivers, especially those driving for businesses, to exercise greater caution behind the wheel.

“It was a terrible scene because it was a deadly accident,” Obalowo said. Over twenty totally burned human bodies were visible to us.

“I learnt they had a head on collision and the two vehicles, a commercial bus and a Sienna which was also conveying passengers caught fire and got burnt beyond repair.

“Our drivers need to avoid over speeding. They should consider other road users and avoid reckless driving.”
