The Road Transport Employers Association of Nigeria, or RTEAN, has been ordered to immediately cease all of its activities in Lagos State by Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu.
The suspension has become necessary as a result of some pockets of violence that were reported in Ojo and Lagos Island on Wednesday, according to Sola Giwa, Special Adviser to the Governor on Transportation, who made the announcement on Thursday. Giwa also stated that a 35-man Caretaker Committee has been established to take over the union’s activities moving forward.
“With immediate effect, the Lagos State Government has halted all activities of RTEAN in an effort to meet one of the key goals of the T.H.E.M.E.S. development plan of the current administration in Lagos State as it relates to Security and Good Governance,” Giwa said.
