A passenger train from Kaduna to Abuja has crushed a middle-aged woman to death on the rail track around the Kubwa area of Abuja, the nation’s Federal Capital Territory.
According to reports, the incident happened at about 10 am on Thursday, December 15, 2022.
An eye witness said that the incident occurred about five minutes before the Kubwa Train Station, while the woman who was driving in her private vehicle attempted to cross the rail line as the train was coming at high speed.
Another eyewitness, Olisa Ogbechie, alleged that the police used force to chase people, who wanted to help away from the scene.
“In an attempt to rescue the victim by first responders and also cover the incident, the policemen at the scene, on-board the train became hostile.
“I and a few others were brutally assaulted by the policemen as they hit and sprayed pepper spray in my eyes and two others, they pointed guns as they harassed us away from the scene,” he said.
Meanwhile, the remains of the victim have been evacuated by security personnel while the damaged car was immediately removed from the rail track in order not to cause further accidents.
This incident comes barely a week after the train service resumed activities. The service had been suspended after the March 28, 2022, bandits’ attack.
