Oyo government installs spikes on roads to destroy tyres of motorists driving one-way (Video)

The Oyo State Government has introduced One-Way Tyre Spikes as part of its efforts to curb wrong-way driving and enhance road safety.

A viral video making rounds on social media showcases the new enforcement tool in action. The spikes are designed to puncture the tyres of vehicles attempting to go against traffic, ensuring stricter adherence to road regulations.

Sharing the footage on X (formerly Twitter) on Tuesday, OyoAffairs stated, “To prevent motorists from driving the wrong way on one-way roads, the Oyo State Government has started installing ‘One-Way Tyre Spikes.’ This one here is located along Idi-Ape.”

While, the state government has yet to issue an official statement regarding the widespread implementation of the measure, it has generated mixed reactions from Nigerians on social media platforms.

@jide_omiyale reacted; “This is very good. We must implement proper orientation into our motorist without extreme enforcement. Anyone that goes against this will definitely have his or herself to blame. Oyo State is indeed a Pacesetter State. Kudos.”

@AligheSolomon said; “I love this idea better than using lastma than will be chasing up and down and later cause accidents. With this even police no go pass one way… But Lagos no go do am na way of extorting people they will be looking for.”

@straightup73568 wrote; “Nigeria don’t need this kind thing now. Nigeria is still under construction. 🚧 I know before the end of this year cars will follow one way at that Idi-ape. Bcuz they will always have something to construct there.”

@hormonemars said; “This is so wrong. What if there’s traffic at the other side and an Ambulance wants to use one way? Or what happens when Police are chasing thieves? And don’t forget Banks plenty for that side. Or what happens if you just want to reverse?”

@Ocean_Deepwells reacted; “What if there is an accident, hold up or road maintenance 🤔 and the motorist are to follow one way? This is insane.”
