Longest Reigning Oba Joins Ancestors In Ogbomoso
Oba Samuel Adeyemi Olayode, Alasoko of Isoko Ogbomoso, has joined his ancestors.
Oba Olayode transited early hours of Easter Monday during a brief illness at the age of 86.
The passage of the Oba was confirmed in the Facebook wall of one of his sons, Adesoye Kayode Olayode, who mournfully wrote: “It is hard now to say adieu baba mi, confidant and mentor. I have not recovered from the loss of my mum when you left again… I will miss you. Goodbye Oba Samuel Olayode Adeyemi Alasoko of Isoko, Ogbomoso.”
He assumed the throne of his forefathers on October 9, 1967 making him the longest ruling monarch, until his death, in this part of the world.
According to a release on behalf of the family signed by Prince Samuel Olayode titled, “The passage of Oba Olasoko of Isoko Ogbomoso,” and made available to ogbomosoinsightonline.com, “Oba Olayode was born on 6th December 1936 at Makolokin a suburb area in Ifo Area of Ogun State.
“He was enthroned as Olasoko by the then Oba Olajide Olayode the Soun of Ogbomoso in October 1967 and reigned for close to three decades. During his reign, he propagated the recognition of the Alasoko dynasty as Second Class and beaded Oba in Ogbomoso South Local Government. He was able to unite other Olora titles that spread across Western Nigeria with kin and kit relationships.
“He was a family man with many children. Oba Adeyemi with the Souns, other important chiefs and dignitaries of Ogbomoso, contributed, from the late 60s when he was installed to the development and progress of Ogbomoso at large.
“His closeness then to the late Oba Olajide Olayode and later Oba Jimoh Oyewumi was typical and went to places like Ghana, Jos Gombe and so on for issues pertaining to Ogbomoso in general.”
