JUST IN: Tension as gunmen abduct several students travelling for Christmas holiday in Ondo

Several students have been reportedly abducted by gunmen along Akunnu-Ajowa road, in Akoko area of Ondo State.

According to reports, the students were ambushed on Friday, December 23, 2022, at Ago Jinadu Axis, in Akoko, an area said to be noted for crimes, especially kidnapping.

The students who are schooling at Kogi State Polytechnic were returning home for the yuletide.

The development has said to have gripped the residents of Ajowa community and its environs.

Contacted, the Police Area Commander, in lkare, Muri Agboola, said his men have been combing forests along the Akunnu-Ajowa Akoko road to rescue the abducted students.

The state police command spokesperson , Funmi Odunlami, could not be reach for comment.

The Akoko attack was one of several major incidents this year underscoring the challenge facing Nigeria’s overstretched security forces.

The military is battling a conflict perpetuated by Boko Haram and its offshoots in the northeast, armed bandits in the northwest, and separatist tensions in the country’s southeast.
