BREAKING: 47-year-old Liz Truss becomes the new UK Prime Minister
The contest to succeed Boris Johnson as prime minister of the United Kingdom (UK) has been won by 47-year-old Liz Truss.
Remember that on July 7, 2022, Boris Johnson formally resigned from his position as prime minister of the United Kingdom.
This comes after more than 30 lawmakers ordered him to leave their government and resigned.
Johnson announced his resignation on Thursday in a speech made outside Number 10 Downing Street, stating that it was obvious the Conservative Party needed a new leader.
In her acceptance speech, Truss praised outgoing Prime Minister Boris Johnson, noting that he was “admired from Kyiv to Carlisle.” She also stated that she would prioritise proving her ability to perform over the following two years.
She promised to present a daring strategy to lower taxes, expand the economy, and address both short-term and long-term issues with the energy supply. “I’ll provide for the NHS,”
In a poll that she claimed will occur in 2024, Truss pledged to deliver a “huge” Conservative election triumph. She declared, “I ran for office as a Conservative, and I will lead as a Conservative.”
The 47-year-old incoming premier, who has eight years of cabinet experience, has pledged a right-wing programme of tax cuts, much of which will be financed by borrowing, in an effort to prevent Britain from entering a protracted recession.
