In one of the deadliest stadium disasters in history, a stampede at a football game in Indonesia has left at least 174 people thought dead.

After a football game between Arema FC and Persebaya Surabaya at Kanjuruhan Stadium in the eastern city of Malang on Saturday night, the catastrophe took place.

Following their team’s 3-2 defeat, thousands of enraged Arema supporters, according to Indonesian police, stormed I field.

East Java police commander Nico Afinta claimed that when cops used tear gas to break up fights on the field, it caused a stampede as terrified spectators ran for the exits.

Videos posted to social media during the stampede show the moment spectators were trying to flee and how 180 people were also hurt.
