Two die as fire guts Ex-Oyo governor Alao Akala’s residence

Two persons lost their lives in a fire incident at the Ogbomoso residence of a former governor of Oyo State, Chief Adebayo Alao-Akala.

STAR POTTER Gathered that Alao-Akala was the governor of the state between 2007 and 2011.

It was gathered that the residence of the former governor, located in the Randa area of Ogbomoso, was razed by fire in the early hours of Monday.

The cause of the fire incident has not been known as at the filing this report on Monday.

The extent of the damage has not been established but it was learnt that two people lost their lives in the incident.

An indigene of Ogbomoso, who asked not to be named, said that those who lost their lives were living in the house.

“I have been informed. Yes. The two people are those living in the house.

“I have called on of the people who are in the house and he has confirmed it to me. The inferno happened this morning,” the source said.

A source within the compound, who begged not to be named, said that the inferno started around 7:50 am in the morning.

The source added that One of the victims died instantly while the other one gave up the ghost at Bowen Teaching Hospital, Ogbomoso, where she was rushed to for medical attention.
He identified one of the victims as Mr Jumo.

Our correspondent gathered that political associates of the former governor and friends have been visiting the house to commiserate with the Alao- Akala family over the fire incident.

Efforts made by Star Potter to get the reaction of the state fire service were unsuccessful as relevant officials could not be reached for comments.
