The Top 4 Best Graduating Students Of OOU Receives N8 million From Gov. Abiodun

The top four graduates of Olabisi Onabanjo University (OOU), has been awarded the sum of N8,000,000 by Governor Dapo Abiodun.

The award was announced at the 32nd and 33rd joint convocation ceremonies held recently, where it was revealed that each student will receive his N2 million.

The recent convocation covered the 2021/2022 and 2022/2023 academic sessions and witnessed the conferring of degrees, postgraduate diplomas, master’s degrees and doctoral degrees to over 15,000 deserving graduates in various fields.

The OOU management had earlier honored three of his outstanding students: Tarabi Ayomide from the Department of Biochemistry, Adesanya Damilola from the Department of Pharmacology, and Abi Ifeoluwa who studied Computer Engineering.

These outstanding individuals achieved his CGPA of an astonishing 4.86 and each received his two million naira cash prize in recognition of their exceptional academic performance. Governor Abiodun also declared a cash prize of two million naira to a Pharmacy graduate, Professor Adegoke Azeezat, who achieved the highest CGPA of 4.90 in the 2022/2023 academic session.

In addition, a cash prize of N500,000 will be awarded to the outstanding graduates of each department .

On behalf of Abiodun, Representative Noimo Salako Oedele congratulated the graduates and assured that the state government would continue to provide adequate resources and support to produce highly capable human resources who will contribute to the development of a strong and prosperous nation and pledged to prioritize education.

However, he urged students to be proud ambassadors of the university, saying: “Therefore, in order to realize my ideas, I have a competitive edge.

Earlier, the Vice-Chancellor of the university, Professor Ayodeji Agboola, said: He said his administration is actively pursuing initiatives to enhance academic excellence and achieve the university’s vision.

He said he has introduced 10 new programs, including the establishment of a business school.

In addition, open and distance learning centers will also begin operations soon.

The main objective of the Agboola administration is to transform OOU into a world-class university that produces graduates who will be catalysts for innovation, entrepreneurship and global employment.

This goal is set out in his 10-year plan from 2023 to 2033.
In his address to the graduates, Mr Agboola congratulated them and encouraged them to take advantage of the many opportunities that lie ahead.

He emphasized the importance of using the knowledge gained on the course to make a positive impact on the world and to serve as a proud ambassador for the university.

The Vice-Chancellor thanked Governor Abiodun and the Governing Body led by Prof. Toyin Ashiru for their unwavering support and commitment to prioritizing the quality of education.

He acknowledged that their dedication contributed to the development of academic excellence and infrastructure within the university.

On this occasion, the Honorary Doctorate of Science was conferred on the Akaribo to the Supreme Ruler of Remoland, Oba Adewale Ajayi, and the immediate past Chancellor of the University and Chairman of the University Management Council, Mr. Mosunmola Bello-Olusoga.
