The Headies Awards 2022 organisers have removed musician Habeeb Okikiola, aka Portable, off the list of nominees for threatening to murder his fellow nominees.
The Headies announced that Mr. Habeeb Okikiola (@portablebaeby) was removed from its list of 15 nominees in order to send a clear message that reckless and impolite words are not acceptable.
“The music business demands all-around excellence, and it is crucial that young performers who could serve as role models exhibit professionalism, appropriate decorum, and respect for others.”
The organisers claim that Portable was disqualified as a result of several offences on his social media accounts.
Recall that on May 25, 2022, he vowed to kill, hurt, or otherwise negatively affect the other contenders for the same prizes he was up for if he did not win. Declare The Headies
When The Headies announced the nominees for its 2022 edition, Portable was nominated to compete in the “Rookie of the Year” and “Best Street-Hop Artiste” categories, according to Vanguard.
Av, Fave, Magixx, and Ugocci are among the other contenders for “Rookie of the Year.”
He competes in the second division alongside people like Bella Shmurda, Mohbad, Naira Marley, and Goya Menor.
The “Zazuu” singer Portable threatened to sue anyone beat him for the 2022 Headies Award on Instagram.
But after hearing Portable’s statement, the awards’ organisers quickly responded, saying:
“We have reported Mr. Okokiola’s activities to other nominees to the Nigerian police. A written apology to the nominees in both categories as well as to The Headies has also been demanded, along with the immediate withdrawal of the video.
If Mr. Okikiola does not comply with our demands, we will not only bar him from competing in The Headies but also execute the law.
The Headies stated that “the general public are hereby requested to disregard the film and cease the transmission of the same in the public space.”
