Ogbomoso-born chef, Tope Maggie, will embark on a daring journey on Thursday, November 9 to break the Guinness World Record (GWR) for the longest culinary marathon.
Tope Maggie has set a target of 200 hours of cooking, or at least eight days, to be held at Ogbomoso Country Club, opposite LAUTECH College of Health Sciences, Isale-General.
His cooking marathon will begin at 6 p.m.
Tope Maggie set this ambition after Hilda Effiong
Bassey, better known as Hilda Baci, demolished the old GWR owned by Lata Tondon, an Indian, last May, after Cooked 100 hours (4 days) non-stop, but 7 hours later she was docked a penalty for mistakenly taking extra minutes for one of her breaks at the start of the attempt.
She prepared more than 100 pots of food during the competition, mainly Nigerian cuisine.
Tondon’s record of 87 hours and 45 minutes has stood for four years.
However, the stakes were raised when a few days ago Irish chef Alan Fisher broke Hilda Baci’s GWR record by cooking for 119 hours and 57 minutes, 24 hours longer than the previous record set by Hilda Baci holds.
Fisher is the owner and chef of a restaurant in Japan.
Tope Maggie has also owned and managed restaurants in Ogbomoso for many years.
