N1.6 million ‘Vanishes’ From a Health Worker’s GTBank Account

Walter Ikani, a medical worker in Calabar, says Np 1.6 million has mysteriously disappeared from his Guaranty Trust Bank (GTB) account.

Ikani told FIJ that he visited and wrote to the bank several times after the incident, but despite his efforts, nothing positive was obtained.

The health care worker said the fraudulent activity on his account occurred six days after he asked for his new ATM card.

He said he received a call from an unknown number on August 7 and that the speaker sounded like an automated voice reading out a series of numbers.

“I was confused by the voice message and immediately hung up, but then a series of alerts appeared, about 11 of which resulted in a total of N1,650,000 from my GT bank account,” said Ikani of his FIJ. told to He said he was surprised that SportyBet was the recipient of fraudulent transactions on his account.

When FIJ emailed GT Bank about the matter, they sent a canned answer instructing the reporter to phone them instead. The bank’s phone number, however, was unavailable at the time of publication.
