Oyo State Governor, Engr. Seyi Makinde has joined protesters in Ibadan who were protesting over the hardship and the deteriorating economic situation in the country.
The NLC declared a 2-day nationwide strike which will hold today and tomorrow – February 27 and 28, 2028.
Members of the NLC in Oyo state in compliance to the directive started the protest from their Agodi secretariat, marching towards Mokola roundabout, expressing their grievances with chants like “Ebi npa wa o,” translating to “we are hungry.”
Governor Seyi Makinde later joined the demonstrators, appealing for patience and a peaceful exercise.
He urged all parties to work together to find solutions to the hardship occasioned by the fuel subsidy removal and the high rate of exchange, expressing hope that the situation can be turned around.
‘There is hunger and hardship in the land. We must do something about it.”
Governor Makinde noted that the worsening economic situation is not unique to Oyo State, but rather a nationwide issue.
He called on the federal government to take action to alleviate the suffering of the people, emphasizing the need for policies that promote growth and job creation.
In Yobe state, members of the NLC also protested against the high cost of living and carried diverse banners with several inscriptions to drum home their points.
The Katsina State Branch of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) on Tuesday joined the two-day nationwide peaceful protests over economic hardship in the country.
According to the Katsina State NLC Chairman Hussaini Yanduna who led all the affiliates in the protest, the country is facing a lot of economic difficulties with serious hardship.
