A fake soldier was apprehended in the Ibeto neighbourhood of Nasko, in the state’s Magama Local Government Area, along with military camouflage and cash totaling N720,000.
Wasiu Abiodun, the police public relations officer for Niger State, stated in a statement on Wednesday, August 10, that the suspect, Aliyu Umar, had a Mercedes Benz with registration number BDG 300 TA, one NDA emblem, one military jungle hat in camouflage, one military vest with a belt, one military face mask, two ropes, and three sim cards from various network providers.
Wasiu claimed that despite claiming to be a vehicle trader and farmer and being on the Command’s watch list, the suspect was unable to provide a satisfactory account of himself. He reportedly said that he intended to use the money he had on hand to buy a car.
The 35-year-old suspect abandoned a Honda Accord with the registration number RBC 143 FF near Maje along Kotangora road in 2020 to avoid being apprehended for a related offence, according to the police spokesperson.
The Statement Read;
“On receipt of this information, Police operatives attached to Nasko Division mobilized to the area and arrested one Aliyu Umar aged 35yrs ‘m’ of Wawu-Garin Warra, Ngaski LGA of Kebbi State.
“During interrogation, he denied being a military officer, but claimed that the accoutrements belong to his brother who is a soldier is serving at Warri.”
The Case is still under investigation, and Umar will be arraigned in court for prosecution immediately after the conclusion of the probe.
