Excitement as Federal Poly Ayede student shines at national competition, bags awards

Miss Arinola Ibukunoluwa Taiwo, a National Diploma II student of the Department of Science Laboratory Technology, Federal Polytechnic, Ayede, Ogbomoso, Oyo state, recently posted a brilliant feat at a research presentation programme among students of Nigerian universities and polytechnics, held at the Yaba College of Technology, Yaba, Lagos.

Taiwo’s project titled “Isolation/Culturing of Microbes in Vended Watermelon Using Specific Agar” was among those adjudged best in the competition, earning her accolades and awards.

“l wish to congratulate Miss Arinola Ibukunoluwa Taiwo of the Department of Science Laboratory Technology, Federal Polytechnic Ayede on her exceptional performance at a recently orgnanised competition held at Yaba College of Technology, Yaba, Lagos,” the Rector of the institution, Engr. Dr.Taofeek Adekunle Abdul-Hameed, said in a statement signed on his behalf by the institution’s Protocols and Public Relations Officer, Mr. Sunday Adepoju.

Her exceptional performance won her “Certificate of Achievement” at this year’s International Day of Women and Girls in Sciences organized by Women in Technical Education and Employment (WITED) in collaboration with the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organisation (UNESCO) member, UNEVOC Centre for Research and Sustainable Development.

Also, she was conferred with an award by Mrs Motunrayo Babatunde, promoter of Women’s World radio programme, as a reward for her excellent research endeavour and presentation and to encourage other upcoming girl scientists to explore opportunities available at their finger tips.

The award presentation ceremony held during this year’s International Day of Women at Ogbomoso Recreation Club, was attended by members of the Ayede Polytechnic chapter of WITED led by Engr. Dr. Temilola M. Adepoju.

Commending Taiwo’s feat the Rector, in the statement, charged other students of the institution to “emulate such brilliant performance.”

Dr Abdul-Hameed recalled the programme was brought to the notice of the students of the polytechnic by one of their lecturers, Miss Abibat Bello, through a flyer, noting this challenge was embraced by their students.

“Miss Taiwo’s project titled, “Isolation/Culturing of Microbes in Vended Watermelon Using Specific Agar” was among the adjudged best of the best,” Abdul-Hameed maintained.

He added, “This feat has been made possible by the Almighty God, the platform provided by our Polytechnic, the support from WITED Federal Polytechnic Ayede chapter, the doggedness of the Department of Science Laboratory Technology, among others.

“I, therefore, thank you all for your support geared towards the realisation of the vision of the Polytechnic and for sticking to ‘Learning, Dexterity and Morals’ as goes our motto.

Noting such inspiring feats is the hallmark of the three-year old institution, he charged “prospective students, parents and guardians to consider Federal Polytechnic Ayede as their number one choice as our admission is still ongoing in our twelve National Diploma programmes: Electrical and Electronic Engineering Technology, Computer Engineering Technology, Agricultural Technology, Computer Science, Urban and Regional Planning, Estate Management and Valuation, Statistics, Tourism Management Technology, Accountancy, Business Administration and Management, Public Administration as well as Science Laboratory Technology.”
