BREAKING: Kano governor Abba Yusuf presents Reinstatement Letter to Muhammadu Sanusi II (Video)

Sanusi Muhammadu has been reinstated as the Emir of Kano after receiving his letter of appointment from Governor Abba Yusuf on Friday.

His reinstatement took place at the Government House in Kano, four years after he was deposed by the immediate past governor of the state Abdullahi Ganduje.

Traditional rulers, kingmakers and other top dignitaries were in attendance at the event which came barely one day after Governor Yusuf’s signing of the Kano State Emirate Council (Repeal) Bill 2024 into law.

Presenting the letter on Friday, the governor said, “We return Sanusi out of conviction that he was victimized in 2019.

“We also return him as the rightful Emir of Kano, to continue the good job he was doing for the good of Kano People.”

Commenting on the legislative process that led to Sanusi’s reinstatement, the governor insisted, “Once a Bill is signed into law, it has become law and nobody can change that.”

“Your reappointment was guided by the collective belief and judgement of your competency, dedication and zeal for the development of Kano State and it’s environs.

“As you ascend the throne of the Kano Emirate of Kano State, you should be guided in your conducts by the teachings of Islam which you are known for,” he added.

Yusuf urged Sanusi to reunite the family of Ibrahim Dabo and also do more to ensure that Islamic sects are brought together as one worshipers of Allah.

Sanusi Lamido was born to the ruling class Fulani family of Sullubawa on July 31, 1961.

His father, Aminu Sanusi, was a prince and diplomat, and his mother’s name was Saudatu Hussain.

Sanusi attended St. Anne’s Primary School in Kaduna before attending King’s College, Lagos. After his secondary education, he attended Ahmadu Bello University, where he obtained bachelor’s and master’s degrees in Economics in 1981 and 1983, respectively.

Sanusi, who began his banking career in 1985 at Icon Limited, served as the governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria from June 3, 2009, to February 20, 2014.

On June 8, 2014, he succeeded his great-uncle, Ado Bayero, who had ruled for over five decades, to the throne.

He was dethroned on March 9, 2020, by Abdullahi Ganduje, the former governor of Kano State.

The 14th Emir of Kano was reinstated on the 23rd of May, 2024, by the Kano State governor, Abba Yusuf.
