Ogbomoso – Oyo section of new highway: Contractor moves to site

Road construction equipment have been sited at the Federal Government/Baby area Ogbomoso end of the Ibadan-Oyo-Ogbomoso-Ilorin new dual carriageway fueling suspicion that the contractors might have finally moved to site to execute the remaining 7km part of the road.

Recall few weeks ago, news filtered in that the project had been re-awarded to an indigeneous firm, JRB Construction Company Ltd., at the cost of N147.89b, after RCC Construction Company Ltd. handling it previously was sacked over allegation of non-performance.

The news sparked joy among the people of Ogbomoso especially following years of hell the old single-lane road had exposed them to.

Subsequently, the question arose as to when funds would be released for the execution of the re-awarded project.

When approached however, the men at the site who obviously are workers of the company refused to talk on the matter asking our correspondent to call back on Saturday “when our bosses would be around.”

But it is unquestionable that heavy equipment including excavators, trucks and so on are at that end of the new highway. The remaining 7km is between that end and Arinkinkin all within the Ogbomoso axis.
