59-year-old grandmother breaks world record by doing 1575 Pushups in 60 minutes
AMERICA | 59-year-old grandmother breaks world record by doing 1575 pushups in 60 minutes.
A 59-year-old grandmother from Canada, DonnaJean Wilde has set a new Guinness World Record by completing 1,575 pushups in 60 minutes, earning the title for the most pushups in one hour for the female category.
This remarkable feat comes just eight months after Wilde broke another world record in March 2024 for the longest plank held by a woman, clocking an impressive 4 hours, 30 minutes, and 11 seconds.
Wilde credits the rigorous training for her planking record as the foundation for her latest success. During her preparation, she fell in love with pushups, incorporating 500 a day into her routine.
For her second record attempt, Wilde entered with “abs and arms of steel” and a resilient mindset. She surpassed the previous pushup record with 17 minutes to spare, leaving her in awe of her own stamina.
“I had to fight back the happy tears and emotions and keep going. I still felt quite strong and I was aiming for a high number of push-ups to complete in the next 17 minutes,” she said.
Eleven of Wilde’s 12 grandchildren cheered her on, assisting by counting her sets and offering words of encouragement throughout the hour. The record-breaking attempt was not without its challenges.
Each pushup required a 90-degree elbow flex at the bottom and a full arm extension at the top. At one point, Wilde’s shoulder dislocated but promptly popped back into place, allowing her to continue.
Wilde started the hour strong, completing 620 pushups in the first 20 minutes. She then alternated between sets of 20 and 5 pushups over the next 15 minutes before settling into an average of 10 pushups per set until time expired.
Reflecting on her achievement, Wilde emphasized the importance of maintaining fitness at any age. “I believe that if we stay active and have health and wellness goals we can age gracefully and powerfully,” she said.
