2027: Oyo governor Makinde announces date to reveal his preferred successor (Video)

Seyi Makinde, governor of Oyo, has announced that he will reveal his preferred successor in January 2026.
Makinde spoke on Monday during the 11th Omituntun Ramadan lecture, which took place at the government house arcade in Ibadan, the Oyo state capital.
The lecture, titled ‘Benefits of Being a Good Neighbour: An Islamic Perspective’, was delivered by Yunus Teliat, the grand chief Imam of Ogbomoland.
Religious and political leaders, including Rashidi Ladoja, a former governor of the state, attended the event.
Speaking in Yoruba, Makinde thanked Muslim leaders for supporting his administration and urged them to continue praying for his government.
He jokingly addressed Abbas Oloko, a popular socialite, telling him not to remove his billboard at Isale Alfa.
“I’m not yet a lame duck. Please leave my billboard at Isale Alfa.
“In January 2026, we know that political activities will start. I will tell you the picture of the person that will be installed there,” Makinde said.
Makinde has been governor of Oyo since 2019.
