Nigerian policeman Daniel Amah honoured for rejecting $200,000 bribe embraces Islam

Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) Daniel Amah, who gained national acclaim for rejecting a $200,000 bribe in a high-profile armed robbery case, has converted to Islam.

Amah was formally welcomed into the faith during a private event on Tuesday held at the palace of the Emir of Kano, Muhammad Sanusi II. He adopted Muhammad as his new name.

Speaking in Hausa, the Emir urged Amah to seek Islamic knowledge and diligently observe the five pillars of Islam: belief in Allah, the five daily prayers, fasting during Ramadan, pilgrimage to Mecca, and Zakat (charitable giving).

The Emir prayed for Allah’s guidance so that Amah could become one of the best Muslims in the world.

He also admonished him to uphold his good character and remain respectful and obedient to his parents, regardless of their religious beliefs.

Amah gained national recognition in April 2022 when, as Divisional Police Officer (DPO) in Nasarawa Local Government Area of Kano State, he rejected a $200,000 bribe offered by armed robbery suspects. The suspects had stolen over ₦300 million during a robbery targeting a Bureau De Change operator with $750,000 in cash.

The award was recommended by the Chairman of the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC), Prof. Bolaji Owasanoye, who described Amah’s conduct as exemplary.
