JUST IN: ‘We’re surrounded by Bororo herders,’ Ogbomoso community cries out

Communities in the Obamo axis of Oriire local government area of Ogbomoso, Oyo state, have cried out that their villaga are surrounded by Fulani Bororo herdsmen.

The communities including Obamo, Eleesun Ayetoro, Ologunere, Onikeke, Iluore, Olode Elelu and others made this gripping disclosure during a consultative meeting with Egbe Omo Ogbomoso Parapo Agbaaye at the palace of Obamo Thursday.

“Please help us, we are afraid because the Bororo have surrounded us and we don’t know how to ward off the threat. To even leave our residents has become an issue. Please, save us,” Obas, Baales and chiefs of the communities reportedly told leaders of Ogbomoso Parapo who visited them on a fact-finding mission.

ogbomosoinsightonline.com reports the social-cultural organization led by its home branch chairman, Prince Aderemi Olude, has been going round communities in the zone to seek ways to combat the menace of herdsmen manifesting in farm destruction, killing, maiming, kidnapping, raping and so on.

The Obamo meeting on Thursday was attended by high chiefs of Olobamo, Oba James Adegoke Olukunle Agbalajobi; Baale Eleesun; Baale Ologunere; Baale Olode Eleelu represented; Baale Ologunere represented; Baale Onikeke represented; Iyaloja Olobamo Alhaja Sifawu Adebiyi; Baba Isale Pa Aliu Iyanda as well as officers of Department of State Services (DSS) and Civil Defense.

The people however pointed out communities with two traditional rulers contribute to the problem alleging they sponsor the Fulani Bororo to carry out attacks on rivals and destroy their farms.

They said the herders were not residents of their communities but imported and have now hemmed them in in all directions, troubling their peace.

The Baales and chiefs thus called on Ogbomoso Parapo to proffer lasting solution to the problem lamenting, “We have abundant land for farming but these Bororos prevent us from farming. They scare us.”

Prince Olude in his remark disclosed the association was working hard on finding solution to the challenge assuring, “normalcy will be restored. We will find ways to resolve the problem of two rival chiefs prevalent.”

He also informed government is behind the body as indicated by the presence of security agents in their midst, adding,”We have invoked the spirit of our ancestors, we will surmount the problem.”
