Olarinoye Adijat wins Nigeria’s first gold, set record in weight lifting at Commonwealth Games

Olarinoye Adijat Adenike of Nigeria has won Nigeria’s first medal in the XXII Commonwealth Games, Birmingham 2022, which are now taking place.

In the women’s 55kg weightlifting competition’s Snatch division, the Nigerian athlete put on a spectacular performance.

Adijat set a record at the Commonwealth Games by lifting 90 kg, and at the second trial, she broke her own mark by lifting 92 kg in just 10 minutes.

She lifted 110 kg in the clean and jerk category, and then 111 kg on the third try.

With a combined weight of 203 kg, Adijat won the gold medal at the Commonwealth Games.

Bindyarani Devi Sorokhaibam of India and Fraer Morrow of England completed the podium with respective totals of 202 kg (Silver) and 198 kg (Bronze).
