BREAKING: Police in Ebonyi use teargas to scatter Obi supporters(Video)

Residents of Ebonyi State gathered in the capital city of Abakaliki on Saturday to participate in a million-man match in support of Peter Obi, the Labour Party’s (LP) presidential candidate. The police in the state violently dispersed the crowd.

The supporters, known as the “Obidient movement,” had assembled at the Pastoral Centre in Abakaliki for the march when police invaded the scene and used tear gas to scatter them.

On Saturday morning, the incident generated heavy traffic on the well-traveled Old Enugu route in the capital city.

Steve Ugama, one of the supporters, claimed that the police had detained roughly five of his colleagues in addition to scattering and using tear gas on the crowd.

This is undemocratic and inhumane, he declared. We had met here this morning for our nonviolent March when the cops suddenly arrived, began tear gassing us, and began detaining our folks.

“They said that we couldn’t hold the march because Governor David Umahi had directed them to stop us. Four of our coworkers, roughly, have been arrested. Help is necessary here.

The supporters, however, later got together in a different area of the city and carried on with the march.

They were spotted at the time of this report on the Enugu-Abakaliki highway.
