BREAKING: LAUTECH ranked best university to study engineering in Nigeria

Ladoke Akintola University of Technology (LAUTECH), Ogbomoso, Oyo state, has been ranked the top university to study engineering in Nigeria.

This is according to an information in the JAMB2025.COM.

The ranking based on the Scimago Institutions Rankings (SIR), an internationally recognized ranking system which evaluates universities based on research performance, innovation output, and societal impact, and used to assess objectively each institution’s contributions to engineering education and research, listed LAUTECH as the best university for engineering education in Nigeria, while it ranks 1, 962 globally. Covenant University, Ota Ogun state, is ranked second in Nigeria (2, 739 globally). Others in order of ranking are University of Ilorin (3, 130 globally), Ahmadu Bello University ((3, 259 globally), Landmark University (3, 277 globally), University of Nigeria, Nsukka (3, 358 globally), University of Lagos (3,412 globally), Federal University of Technology, Owerri (3, 427 globally), Nnamdi Azikiwe University (3, 452 globally) and Obafemi Awolowo University (3, 515 globally).

Factors such as LAUTECH’s focus on blending theoretical knowledge with practical experience and producing highly skilled engineers who excel in their respective fields are what put the institution ahead.

The institution which currently has as Vice Chancellor Prof Rasak Olatunde ROM Kalilu, has the reputation for “its state-of-the-art engineering laboratories, advanced research centers, and well-equipped workshops, enabling students to engage in hands-on training and research-driven projects.” Its emphasis on “technology integration and research innovation has set it apart as a leader in engineering education. Research initiatives in areas such as renewable energy, information technology, and infrastructural development have contributed significantly to its high ranking.”

It is also noted, “One of the core strengths of LAUTECH is its industry partnerships, which provide students with opportunities for internships, industrial attachments, and collaborative projects with top engineering firms. These industry connections ensure that students graduate with both academic knowledge and practical experience, making them highly employable in a competitive market. The institution also prioritizes a student-focused approach, offering support systems like academic monitoring, career counselling, and entrepreneurial training programs.

In medicine, the university is ranked 8th in Nigeria and 1501+ globally, also according to SIR, and is bettered by the University of Ibadan, Federal University of Technology, Akure, University of Lagos, Bayero University, Kano, University of Ilorin, Afe Babalola University and University of Benin in that order.

It is recognized for its “commitment to quality medical education, clinical training, and healthcare research.”

LAUTECH has also consistently been ranked as the best state university in Nigeria.
