BREAKING: Trailer knocks down 84-yr-old chief in Ogbomos

An eighty-four-year-old man was Saturday evening knocked down by a heavy duty vehicle with registration number Kebbi BRK -165 XC at Owolaake/Agric area of Ogbomoso, Oyo state.

According to an eye witness, the victim, Chief Joseph Okeowo, of Ile Otun Owolaake area, was attempting to cross to the other side of the road when the vehicle otherwise known as trailer hit him with a devastating impact.

An eyewitness who gave his name simply as Kayode told ogbomosoinsightonline.com, “The old man was attempting to cross to the other side of the road when the trailer knocked him down. His two legs are gone and nobody knows whether he will survive the devastating injuries he sustained. The Road Safety people however quickly responded and had taken him to a hospital.”

Concerns over the road, the major trunk A road linking north and south western Nigeria, have continued to grow as its bad condition has virtually made it impassable especially within the metropolis, a situation that causes heavy gridlock of trailers and constitutes danger of trailer accidents.

Recall on Wednesday night a widow and her two children were trampled to death in the Apake area of the town while they were returning home on a commercial motorcycle. Many similar accidents have claimed several lives over the years yet governments have turned deaf ears to the pleas of the residents to repair the road and make the stretch within the metropolis a dual carriageway.
