US 2024 Presidential Election (Live Updates)
As the world await the most popular election in the great America, I’ll put up a write up and then follow up with live updates as we are less than 48 hours into the most contested election this year.
The Candidates
1. Kamala Harris
Known for her famous quote ”At every step of the way, I’ve been guided by the words I spoke from the first time I stood in a courtroom: Kamala Harris, For the People”.
In 2004, Vice President Harris was elected District Attorney of San Francisco.
In 2010, Vice President Harris was elected Attorney General of California where she oversaw the largest state justice department in the country. She took on those who were preying on the American people, winning a $20 billion settlement for Californians whose homes had been foreclosed on and a $1.1 billion settlement for students and veterans who were taken advantage of by a for-profit education company.
In 2017, she was sworn into the United States Senate where she championed legislation to fight hunger, provide rent relief, improve maternal health care, expand access to capital for small businesses, revitalize America’s infrastructure, and combat the climate crisis.
On January 20, 2021, Kamala Harris was sworn in as Vice President – the first woman, the first Black American, and the first South Asian American to be elected to this position. As Vice President, she has worked to bring people together to advance opportunity, deliver for families, and protect fundamental freedoms across the country.
2. Donald Trump
Donald John Trump (born June 14, 1946) is an American politician, media personality, and businessman who served as the 45th president of the United States from 2017 to 2021
Mr. Trump announced his candidacy for the Presidency on June 16, 2015. He then accepted the Republican nomination for President of the United States in July of 2016, having defeated 17 other contenders during the Republican primaries. On November 8, 2016, Mr. Trump was elected President in the largest Electoral College landslide for a Republican in 28 years. Mr. Trump won more than 2,600 counties nationwide, the most since President Ronald Reagan in 1984. He received the votes of more than 62 million Americans, the most ever for a Republican candidate.
In 2020, his handling of the world pandemic ”Covid 19” was tagged as a major contributing factor to his big loss to the current president; Joe Biden. He never conceded till date and that led to him mobilising his fanatical supporters to truncate and stop the election validation on the 6th of January, 2021.
HOW THEY CURRENTLY STAND
Age: Donald Trump is currently 78 years old while Harris is currently 60 years old. Looking at how the western political world is shifting towards the younger generation, Harris is favoured by this. Currently being seen as one of them, the Genz are all in for a young mind.
Track Record: Most Americans are majorly concerned about economy. Donald Trump was believed to have performed extremely well economically before his poor handling of the pandemic that plunged the country into so many issues that cost him his presidency. On the other hand, Kamala Harris though the Vice to Biden has enjoyed unspeakable critics of the current rate of inflation in the country amongst other things.
Scandals: Currently being tagged a felon with 34 counts against his name excluding many other scandals, Donald Trump who rode vigorously on Hillary Clinton’s Email scandals back in 2016 is still trying to find his grip. Kamala Harris on the other end, has enjoyed a scandal free campaign which makes her the favourite for those who are morally driven.
Endorsements: Kamala Harris has been enjoying the biggest form of endorsements from Hollywood major players, to renowned sport stars, to former political office holders and even former Republicans with loads of them having worked with Donald Trump at a time.
Trump has got good endorsements as well, from the current richest man in the world, Elon Musk, to some other celebrities but has recently lost some endorsements as well.
VERDICT: The election is still being seen as a toss and believed could go in either direction. The world is watching how this whole election would end. LET THE RACE FOR 270 ELECTORAL COLLEGE VOTES BEGIN.
The most recent breaking news is that vice president Harris, is currently leading in Iowa. What does this means? It’s been a known fact for decades that whoever wins Iowa, most likely would be sitting in the White house by January 20. This has really unsettled a lot of RNC strategists.
