Two Ibadan residents remanded in prison for unleashing 4 dogs on police

An Iyaganku Chief Magistrates’Court sitting in Ibadan on Thursday remanded a woman, Olayinka Akinware, 35, and Tunji Adesina, 29, for allegedly unleashing four dogs on police to stop officers from arresting a suspect.

The Magistrate, Mr. M. Mudashiru who did not take the plea of the suspects for want in jurisdiction ordered that they should be remanded in Abolongo Correctional facility in Oyo.

He said the remand is pending legal advice from the Directorate of Public Prosecution (DPP). Mudashiru adjourned the matter until December 18, for mention.

Earlier, the Prosecution Counsel, Insp Femi Oluwadare told the court that the suspects were charged with conspiracy and prevention of arrest.

Oluwadare said, the suspects conspired to prevent arrest of a suspect who lived in their house. He said on Sept. 12, at about 8:30 a.m, the suspects assaulted DSP Festus Fagbohun, ASP Ojo Tolulope, Insp Sariki Mohammed and Cpl. Tosin Olubode with branches of a bamboo tree.

”Akinware and Adesina unleashed their Pitbull, Rottweiler and two Eskimo dogs on the police in an attempt to prevent lawful arrest of Korede Adeoye, while performing their duty ” Oluwadare said.

He said the offence was committed at No 15, Oluwo area, Ibadan.

Oluwadare said the offence contravened the provisions of Section 332 and 516 of the Criminal Code Laws of Oyo State 2000.

Section 332 stipulates life imprisonment for the offender if found guilty of the offence.

In a related development, a Makurdi Magistrates Court, on Wednesday, ordered the remand of one Adera Sunday, 40, accused of defiling of his 16-year-old stepdaughter.

The Magistrate, Mrs Sonia Ayange, did not take the plea of the defendant, a resident of Welfare Quarters, Makurdi, for want of jurisdiction.

Ayange thereafter ordered that the defendant should be remanded at the Makurdi Correctional Centre pending further investigation.

She adjourned the case to Oct. 11 for further mention.

Earlier, the Police Prosecutor, Insp James Ewache told the court that the teenager reported the case at the State Criminal Investigation Department in Makurdi on Aug. 30

The prosecutor said that the complainant informed the police that her stepfather had been taking sexual advantage of her since she was 13 years of age without her consent.

“He lures her into taking noxious drugs and while under the influence, forcefully takes advantage of her,” the prosecutor said.

Ewache said that investigation into the matter was still ongoing and prayed the court for another date for mention.

He said that the offence contravened Sections 284 of the Penal Code, Laws of Benue State, 2004.
