Tanker Carrying 60,000 Litres Of Automotive Gas Oil Loses Control, Somersaults In Ibadan

A tanker transporting 60,000 litres of Automotive Gas Oil (AGO) lost control and overturned in Ibadan, the capital of Oyo State.

It was gathered that the incident occurred along the Lagos/Ibadan Express-way, Oremeji, Ibadan on Saturday.

According to Daily Post, it was gathered on Sunday that the tanker with registration number KMC 692 ZE, lost control whilst on motion, swerving off the road into a road divider.

The Chairman of the Oyo State Fire Service, Maroof Akinwande confirmed the incident on Sunday.

Akinwande, in the statement noted that the agency received a distress call about the incident on Saturday.

He said that no casualty was recorded but that the tanker was damaged.

He said, “On Saturday 7th June ,2025, the agency’s control room center received a distressed call at exactly 12:30hrs. Immediately the address was taken, the fire Officers led by ACFS Adekola (Mrs) promptly deployed to the scene of the accident.

“On arrival, we met a falling HOWO trailer tanker loaded with registration number KMC 692 ZE (Kano) loaded with 60,000litres capacity of automotive gas oil (AGO) lost control whilst on motion, swerved off the road and somersaulted into a nearby road divider, content gushing out. We briskly carpeting the spillage with AFFF chemical foam compound to suppress the flammability of the liquid which can trigger fire from naked fire.

“The accident was due to reckless driving by the truck driver. No casualty was recorded but the tanker was damaged and fire service was able to save properties worth millions of naira.”
