…Appeals To The State Government On Timely Ratification of New Onikoyi’s Emergence..
In a bid to address developmental challenges and set the tone for a prosperous future, stakeholders gathered for the Oriire Summit 2024 (#OSS2024), a landmark event aimed at fostering unity and driving progress in Oriire Local Government, Oyo State.
The summit witnessed the participation of key traditional rulers, religious leaders, political figures, sectoral leaders, and youth representatives. Among those appreciated for their roles were the traditional leaders, who sent capable representatives, religious leaders under the auspices of CAN and IMAM, and political figures from major parties like the SPC and PDP. Other contributors included leaders from OPC, PMS, Hunters’ groups, and security agencies. Although the Oyo State House of Assembly member, LGA Chairman, and Councillors were unavoidably absent, their future involvement is anticipated to strengthen the collective push for development.
Agenda for 2025
Speaking during the summit, the organizers outlined key initiatives planned for the new year, emphasizing the need for collaborative efforts to transform the local government.
Pre-JAMB Quiz Competition:
Building on the success of last year’s competition, which saw 20 candidates receive free JAMB registration, organizers hope to double this number in partnership with the local government and potential sponsors.
Ward-to-Ward Congresses:
Plans are underway to host grassroots congresses, culminating in a national meeting for Oriire youths to foster unity and development.
Revival of Vocational Training Centre:
Advocacy will be intensified to revive the moribund Vocational Training Centre at the council secretariat, equipping youths with skills to reduce unemployment and societal vices.
Voter Registration Awareness:
With elections on the horizon, efforts will be made to encourage voter card registration, ensuring Oriire’s preparedness for electoral participation.
The summit called for an end to personal interests and internal conflicts, urging all stakeholders to work collectively for the local government’s progress. “We need to stand united against the marginalization of Oriire in Ogbomoso Zone, Oyo North Senatorial District, and Oyo State at large,” a key speaker emphasized.
Participants also issued a clarion call to political leaders, urging them to prioritize Oriire’s development. Citing the example of late Ademola Alalade Samson, who defended Oriire’s interests, stakeholders challenged current leaders to build a legacy of progress.
They specifically mentioned Hon. Chief Johnson Adebayo Bamikole, Rt. Hon. Gungu Ojo, Hon. Ezekiel Ajani Oyedepo, and others, imploring them to actively fight for Oriire’s growth. They also appealed to the President, Governor, Senator, and Local Government Chairman to address Oriire’s infrastructural and developmental deficits.
A special appeal was made to traditional rulers to work collaboratively, transcending ethnic divides that have fragmented the local government. The Governor of Oyo State was also urged to expedite the emergence of a new Onikoyi of Ikoyi-Ile, who would serve as the Chairman of the Traditional Council of Oriire.
In his closing remarks, a summit spokesperson declared, “Oriire is at a critical juncture. Our collective resolve will determine whether we rise or remain stagnant. Let us all—leaders, youths, and community members—commit to a shared vision of progress and unity.”
The summit ended on a hopeful note, with stakeholders pledging their commitment to Oriire’s transformation and a brighter future.
