JUST IN: Unidentified corpse found in fish pond at Attaoheed-Omoosin area Ogbomoso (PHOTOS)

Residents of Attaoheed-Omoosin area of Ogbomoso, Oyo state, has cried out to the authorities of Ogbomoso North local government to come to their aid in evacuating a corpse found in an abandoned fishpond in the area removed by operatives of the Oyo state Fire Service since Monday.

According to investigations by ogbomosoinsightonline.com the corpse was seen floating in the fish pond Saturday morning by a resident who went to defaecate in the surrounding bush.

“When he went to the bus to defaecate he saw the corpse,” a community leader who pleaded anonymity told ogbomosoinsightonline.com. “He promptly raised an alarm and we promptly informed the police, who came for confirmation. They said they would submit their report to the FIre Brigade people. This is as the officials of the environmental health office of the local government were informed. They promised to get the corpse evacuated.”

However, when Ogbomoso Insight visited the location Tuesday the corpse had been removed from the pond, by, according to the residents, operatives of the Fire Service since Monday, but the decomposing body was just dumped by the bank of the pond.

“Yes, after much effort, the operatives of the fire brigade removed the corpse from the pond yesterday but they told us that’s where their duty ends. That it’s the environmental health officers that would evacuate the corpse but since yesterday we have not seen them and the corpse is still lying there raising risk of environmental hazards,” the community leader lamented.

Ogbomoso Insight called the Director of Environmental Health Department in Ogbomoso North local government, Mrs. Ojo Samson, to inquire about the incident but she was already on her way to the area.

When she arrived along with another staffer they inspected the corpse and promised that “the needful would be done promptly.”

There are two ponds lying beside each other, one still active while the other is abandoned, The corpse as mentioned was found in the abandoned one. The owner of the pond is not around and was said to have travelled since about ten days ago.

Meanwhile, the owner of the house next to the pond was briefly detained behind the counter at the Owode Police Station on Saturday, but after the veracity of his claim was ascertained, he was released.

The identity of the corpse had not been unraveled, “He’s not a resident of the area,” it was said. And it’s not known whether he died in the pond or his corpse was dumped there.
