Nigerians frown as MTN Nigeria increases data small plans, days after increasing 15GB data plan that was increased from N2000 to N6000.
However, company insiders have explained that the original price of the data plan was N4,500 but was incentivised to N2,000 to drive internet consumption.
The insiders explained that this incentive plan was no longer sustainable due to MTN’s mounting operational costs and losses. “It was meant to be for a period, but then we extended it. But now, it has gone to the point where we had to review across the board,” one insider said.
MTN’s increment is part of a recently approved 50 percent hike in the price of telecom services.
