Good Worth Millions Of Naira Destroyed As Fire Razes 40 Shops In Ibadan

A fire at Oranyan Market in Ibadan, Oyo State, has resulted in the destruction of goods valued at millions of naira.

It was learnt that fire engulfed the herbal section of the market located within Ibadan North East Local Government Area on Saturday.

The cause of the inferno has not been revealed as of the time of filing this report on Wednesday.

Chairman, Senate Committee on Electoral Matter, Barrister Sharafadeen Abiodun Alli described the incident as a setback for the affected traders.

Alli, who represents Oyo South Senatorial District made this declaration via a statement signed by his Special Adviser on Media, Akeem Abas and made available to Daily Post on Wednesday.

The All Progressives Congress (APC) assured the affected traders that he will continue to support them.

He used the opportunity to also call on relevant government agencies, individuals and organisations to support the victims.

“I call on relevant authorities to expedite the ongoing investigations to determine the cause of the fire and to ensure that adequate preventive measures are put in place to avoid a recurrence.

” I urge the government to provide immediate assistance and relief to the affected traders to help them recover from their losses and rebuild their businesses.

“I appeal to well-meaning individuals and organisations to join hands in providing support to the victims, stressing that this is a time for unity and compassion.

“I reassured the victims that he would continue to advocate for their welfare and work towards securing the necessary aid and interventions.”
