FOGSU LAUTECH Lauds The VC, The DSA & The Global Alumni Body And Call For Reinstatement Of The Students’ Union Government (SUG)

We write on behalf of the Federation of Ogbomoso Students’ Union (FOGSU), LAUTECH chapter, to extend our heartfelt appreciation to Prof. R.O.R. Kalilu, the Vice Chancellor, and Prof. Adepoju, the Dean of Student Affairs, for the swift and thoughtful intervention in addressing the controversial ₦500 daily late registration charge.
The removal of this charge has brought immense relief to thousands of students across various levels, particularly those who are struggling financially and were unaware of the policy from the beginning of the semester. It is a testament to your compassionate and listening leadership.
We recognize and are proud that both of you—Prof. Kalilu and Prof. Adepoju—are true sons of Ogbomoso, and this action reflects the values of empathy, fairness, and community that our land upholds. Your responsiveness, alongside the support of the LAUTECH Global Alumni Body, shows that the welfare of students is still a priority in our great institution.
That said, this situation also highlights a significant gap in the current student-administration structure—the absence of the Students’ Union Government (SUG).
Without a recognized and functioning SUG, there is limited access to timely dialogue, structured advocacy, and a unified student voice. We believe strongly that the reinstatement of the Students’ Union will:
- Enhance proactive communication between students and management,
- Promote transparency and order,
- Empower student leadership and representation.
Therefore, as the leadership of *FOGSU LAUTECH*, we appeal earnestly to the school management to:
- Reinstate the Students’ Union Government through democratic means, and
- Establish clearer channels for student engagement and welfare advocacy.
We believe this will strengthen harmony on campus and sustain the trust that has just been reaffirmed by your recent actions.
Once again, we say thank you for being true leaders, responsive to the needs of your people—students and community alike.
