FOGSU Appeal For Reversal Of Late Registration Charges and Request For 30-Day Grace Window

Appeal for Reversal of Late Registration Charges and Request for 30-Day Grace Window
We, the concerned students of Ladoke Akintola University of Technology (LAUTECH), respectfully write to express our deep concern regarding the recent implementation of a ₦500 daily penalty for late registration. This policy has caught many students unawares, as there was no clear or adequate communication at the start of the semester regarding such a penalty.
While we understand and acknowledge the importance of timely registration, this sudden enforcement—without prior notice—has placed many students in a difficult financial position. A significant portion of the student population is indigent, and not all students were able to access or benefit from the student loan program. The reality is that several of us are struggling to make ends meet and were unprepared for such a policy.
In light of the above, we earnestly appeal to the school management to:
- Reverse the already accrued late registration chargeson student portals, considering the lack of adequate early notice;
- Grant a 30-day registration grace period, effective from the date of response to this memo, during which students can complete their registration without any financial penalties;
- Ensure future policies of this nature are communicated clearly and well in advance, in a manner that reaches all students and gives room for necessary adjustments.
We believe LAUTECH stands not just for academic excellence but also for fairness, inclusion, and compassion. We are hopeful that our request will be treated with the empathy and urgency it deserves.
We look forward to a favorable response.
