Bandits Attack Presidential Guards After Threat to Kidnap Buhari

In Abuja, armed bandits ambushed members of the Guards Brigade less than 24 hours after terrorists in a viral video threatened to kidnap President Muhammadu Buhari and Kaduna Governor Nasir el-Rufai.

The incident, which left three soldiers injured, has the Federal Capital Territory’s (FCT) citizens in a panic.

When they encountered the soldiers, the bandits were travelling to the Nigerian Law School in Bwari.

According to military sources and intelligence assessments, terrorists have besieged the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) with the aim of attacking the Law School in Bwari and other government buildings.

Although officials claimed to be on the trail of the attackers, military sources who requested anonymity said the attack was confirmation of the militants’ siege of the city.

One of the sources claims that the 7 Guards Battalion soldiers were attacked by the alleged terrorists while they were conducting a normal patrol along the Kubwa-Bwari road.

Three soldiers were hurt during the attack, he continued, and they were taken to THE hospital for treatment.

The insider claimed that the ambush in the general Bwari area “shows that the terrorists are actually within the site and perhaps to carry out their plans of assaulting the Law School in Bwari as before reported.”

When reached, Captain Godfrey Abakpa, Assistant Director Army Public Relations, Guards Brigade, acknowledged that soldiers had been attacked by alleged terrorists but had been effectively repelled.

He added that the injured soldiers had been transported to a hospital where they were being treated.

“They were attacked, but the attacker was driven off. We had a few combat casualties who were sent to the hospital and are now undergoing care.

Currently, our forces are still searching the general region to clear it of the criminals who have been posing a threat. Residents are asked to carry on with their lawful activities and to continue working with us by providing us with timely information so that we can defeat the crooks.
