Areago Community High School Ogbomoso crisis: School deserted, principal summoned to Ibadan
The crisis rocking Areago Community High School, Ogbomoso, Oyo state, has further escalated as teachers and students were absent in school on Monday.
When Star Potter visited the school it was virtually empty, save for some students who were seen playing on the field.
“We did not see our teachers today, we don’t know why but I am sure it is not unconnected with the invasion on the school last week. We will also leave soon,” a student who did not however mention his name told Star Potter .
Meanwhile, as teachers waited in the school on Friday as the authorities sought the release of the arrested teachers, some miscreants in the neighbourhood still attacked the teachers, wounding some of them.
That led to the decision to boycott school on Monday with the condition that “unless their safety is guaranteed, they would not return to school.”
Tunde Oladapo, chairman of the Nigeria Union of Teachers (NUT) in Ogbomoso North local government, confirmed this position to reporters on Sunday.
It is learnt the teachers rather reported to the Teaching Service Commision (TESCOM) zonal office, Oja-Tuntun, Ogbomoso, to give vim to their protest.
The teachers were seen sitting in groups, they signed the time book at the zonal office while the principal had been summoned to the TESCOM head office in Ibadan.
