37 People Confirmed Dead In Terrible Boat Mishap In Kwara Community

On Thursday, a boat mishap in the Gbajibo-Mudi community of Kaiama Local Government Area of Kwara State claimed 37 lives, Daily Post reports.

According to impeccable sources, the boat was overloaded with more than 100 passengers on board, though there were some survivors.

The Chairman of Kaiama Local Government, Abubakar Abdullahi, and the Emir of the community, Alhaji Muazu Shehu Omar, are currently on the ground overseeing rescue operations.

The boat was reportedly heading to one of the communities in Niger State before the tragic incident, which occurred at about 6:00 p.m.

Passengers on board were mainly traders traveling for commercial purposes in Niger State.

A similar tragedy occurred on October 5, 2024, in Gbajibo-Mudi village, when passengers traveling for the Islamic Maulid festival lost their lives due to overloading. That incident claimed over 200 lives, and the state government spent N2 million to cover the medical bills of survivors.
